About
The Tyjeski Tile Company (TTCo) specializes in creating handmade art tile and publications on historic faience tile and terra cotta. The founder, Ben Tyjeski, spends his time between the workshop and the camera in order to document and preserve architectural ceramics in his home state of Wisconsin and carry on the craft tradition by creating his own tiles. Touring buildings with historic tile installations inspires Tyjeski’s designs. He also follows the lessons of the old prairie masters and creates tiles with colors, textures, and motifs drawn from his explorations of nature.
Tyjeski creates tile for small installations in exterior or interior work, such as wall panels, backsplashes, hearths, fountains, and more. He also specializes in artistic panoramas and custom tiles. Tyjeski earned his B.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2012. Four years later began working at MPS Garland School as their Art teacher. In 2018 he self-published his first book, Architectural Terra Cotta of Milwaukee County. His quarterly newsletter (sign up here) gives detailed stories on terra cotta and tile to help preserve the craft of handmade ceramics in Wisconsin's built-environment. He lives and works in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
