When the Wausau Senior High constructed an addition to their high school between 1934-6, they created one of the most charming and beautiful hallway interiors in the State. Its walls were faced with modern and clean-looking “brictiles” from the Stark Brick Co. of Canton, Ohio, however what was marvelous was the animal tiles that embellished them. Over 500 of these tiles transformed an ordinary Art Deco space into an adventure. Walking through the hallways, one will find a tile of a bobcat leaping out in front of them, a squirrel gathering acorns under the railing, or a lion resting near their toes! The story of this remarkable collection of Arts & Crafts tiles at the former Wausau East High School is remembered in this book.
