Pottery Bridges Around the World PRE-ORDER

When engineer Charles S. Whitney, designer of the now demolished Sixth Street Bridge of Racine, Wisconsin, authored the book Bridges: A Study in their Art, Science and Evolution, in 1929, he discussed the design of bridges based on the materials they were made with: wood, stone, concrete, and steel. While there are no bridges made uniquely out of clay, there are a grand number of them decorated with baked earth. This book is what would essentially be section VI to Whitney's study, "Bridges of Clay," bringing together fifty-some bridges around the world made with architectural terra cotta, handmade tiles, or ceramic mosaics. Travel with Tyjeski as he takes you as far away as Japan, Vietnam, Spain, Texas, Saskatchewan, Wisconsin, and more to explore some of the world's most fascinating structures that bring together the best of engineering and art. Also learn about the function of art in public spaces in the introduction by Michael Anderson.
